How the year is built

Three terms, each building on the one before — from consolidating the foundations to walking into the exam hall calm and prepared.

AutumnFirst term

Consolidating the foundations

  • Reading closely and answering accurately
  • Writing in clear, controlled sentences
  • Punctuation, spelling and vocabulary made secure
  • An early introduction to verbal reasoning
SpringSecond term

Raising the standard

  • Comprehension answers now evidenced from the text
  • Writing planned before it is written
  • New vocabulary appearing in the pupil's own work
  • Mock tests introduced for the first time
SummerThird term

From learning to performance

  • Timed mock papers, sat to the clock
  • Work marked individually, with productive feedback
  • Timing and pressure become familiar, not unknowns

What the sessions cover

Comprehension

Where most marks are won or lost. Reading closely enough to scan and infer, using the text itself to support every answer, and building the speed to do this against the clock — with an eye on the particular styles each target school favours.

Creative Writing

Writing that holds a reader from the opening line to the last. Showing rather than telling, choosing precise and varied vocabulary, and using literary devices with intent — all built on a plan, and practised under real exam conditions.

What parents say

HBS + St Paul's

She started in Year 5 and we were worried it was a little late — but she got into both HBS and St Paul's. The sessions kept learning engaging while targeting her weak areas with real precision.

— Deepa N S

QE + Habs Boys

Sumona helped him crack both Grammar (QE) and Independent school (Habs Boys) 11+ exams with confidence. She provides much needed motivation and encouragement throughout.

— Amit Trivedi

NLCS + Habs + Scholarship

My daughter got into all the private schools we applied for — including an academic scholarship. We are so grateful for the focused, thoughtful preparation she received.
